Van Cliburn Concert Series » Lara Downes’s Holes in the Sky

A panoply of the finest American women musicians across all genres.” –WQXR

Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, and Nina Simone are among some of the most phenomenal women in the history of American music. Enjoy the soulful songs of these acclaimed musicians as trailblazing pianist Lara Downes offers a tribute to these women and others in Holes in the Sky. This special Sunday afternoon in Crystal Bridges’ Great Hall, with spectacular views of the museum’s woodlands and ponds, includes special guests Alicia Hall Moran, mezzo-soprano, who will perform vocal selections from the featured artists, and harpist Bridget Kibbey. The title of the performance, Holes in the Sky, is inspired by the words of artist Georgia O’Keeffe: “I want music that makes holes in the sky.” Enjoy a glass of wine or other beverages during the performance, or schedule brunch reservations prior to the concert.

“A charming selection of pieces by some powerful composers – a celebration of otherness, as well as an act of repatriation.” –The Washington Post

The Van Cliburn Concert Series Endowment Fund supported by Kelly and Marti Sudduth, Reed and Mary Ann Greenwood, Ellis and Kay Melton, Chip and Susan Chambers, and William M. Fuller Foundation. Special thanks to Tommy Smith and Steinway & Sons.

$45 ($36/members) ($10 for students), register online or with Guest Services.
