L'enfant malade (The Sick Child)

The title refers to the infant cradled in the woman’s lap. An early version of this print was published in a 1902 magazine that called attention to the public health crisis caused by tampered milk. Théophile Alexandre Steinlen regularly contributed to political magazines with work that depicted the social inequities he encountered while living in Paris.
