Aug 20, 2015 In the month of September, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art enjoys the return of youth art classes and school tours, and invites visitors to celebrate Labor Day weekend and Hispanic Heritage Month at the museum. With the start of the new school year, K-12 school groups are able to visit the museum without the cost barriers associated with field trips such as transportation, substitute teachers, and lunch. Along with school tours, youth art classes return including Preschool Art Class on September 2 with Lovely Lines, Homeschool Friday Fun on September 4 with Pop Art and Young Artists Class with Make It Pop on September 5, all exploring Pop art inspired by Warhol’s Nature. Labor Day weekend offers the return of Light Night on September 4 with a turn-of-the- century urban experience at Buckyball. On September 5, an expert in monarch butterflies will host a special Discover the Grounds with a lecture and trail walk. While at the museum, enjoy High South Cuisine in Eleven, and stroll through the Warhol’s Nature and Jamie Wyeth exhibitions. Crystal Bridges will be open on Labor Day, September 7, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off at the museum with Latin Cinema on September 9, exploring Latino and Latin culture through popular short films screened at the San Diego Latin Short Film Festival. On September 23, Mari Carmen Ramirez, United States’ leading scholar on Latin American Art, will host a Spotlight Lecture observing how we define Latin American and Latino art. Night Owl Tour Wednesday evening, September 30 Friday evenings (October 9, 16, 23, 30) Tour time varies based on time of sunset. Get to know one of our favorite Crystal Bridges residents—the barred owl! The tour will begin with a presentation about these magnificent nocturnal birds and will finish with an opportunity to call from the nearby Rockledge Shelter. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to hear them respond! Meet on Walker Landing 15 minutes before the tour begins. The tour includes a short night walk on the Rockledge Trail, which has a crushed granite surface and includes steep stairs. Please wear appropriate shoes. Monday, September 1 Call for College Ambassadors Crystal Bridges is seeking applications for our College Ambassador program. College Ambassadors are students from across the region with a passion for the arts. Start the night with Downtown Bentonville’s First Friday, where the Square will transform into a giant block party for the entire community. Then meet in Dave Peel Park at 7:15 p.m. for a group bike ride with Phat Tire. By the millions, they leave their summer breeding grounds in the United States and Canada to fly thousands of miles to a small area of alpine forest in central Mexico. In this Discover the Grounds, you’ll meet renowned ecologist Lincoln Brower as he discusses the study of monarchs that he has been conducting for almost 60 years. After his discussion, he will lead a monarch-watch walking tour on the Museum grounds for a limited audience of 40.
