Dec 21, 2012 Now enthusiasts of art, architecture, and American history can enjoy the great programming offered at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art right from a computer, iPad or iPhone. This week, Crystal Bridges launched its new iTunes U site, containing dozens of audio and video offerings, including lectures by artists and art historians, interviews with curators and other staff members, and video recordings of many gallery talks, all for free. The newly launched site includes behind-the scenes highlights such as video interviews with conservators as they perform cleaning and maintenance procedures on some of the masterworks in Crystal Bridges’ collection; footage of a special members-only presentation by Crystal Bridges’ founder and board chair Alice Walton and architect Moshe Safdie for the museum’s grand opening; and time-lapse video of the installation of several large-scale works in the museum’s galleries and on the grounds. New content will be added often, so participants are encouraged to subscribe to receive the latest content updates. The new site complements the Crystal Bridges’ audio tour app, which guides participants through permanent collection highlights, temporary exhibitions, and the museum’s unique architecture. Each of the stops on the tour includes a high-resolution image, full label copy, and audio or video clips featuring curators, preparators, or conservators. Durand’s Kindred Spirits, Rosie the Riveter by Norman Rockwell, and Andy Warhol’s Dolly Parton, each reflecting a distinct moment in American artistic evolution. In addition to historical works, the Museum’s collection also showcases major works by modern and contemporary American artists, including Roy Lichtenstein, James Turrell, and Georgia O’Keeffe, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to experience the full scope of American art.
