Internships FAQ

  • Overall, what can I expect as an intern?
The Crystal Bridges and the Momentary internship program is not just about personal growth, but about making a real impact on the community. We work hard to ensure that our interns can connect with the region and various spaces throughout our campuses, in addition to making meaningful connections with our team members. Our intentional programming provides insight into how Crystal Bridges and the Momentary operate internally and the significant impact they have on the community, as well as the non-profit world. And yes, we always have lots of snacks!
  • What is the annual availability for internships?
There are three internship cohorts offered throughout the year—spring, summer, and fall—with each cohort except the summer falling between 12–14 weeks. This depends on how pay periods fall. The spring cohort runs from January to April, with applications open from September through November. The summer cohort runs from June to July (8 weeks), with applications open from November through March. The fall cohort runs from the end of August through November, with applications open from January through April.
  • How long do internships typically last and how many hours per week are they?
During the spring and fall cohorts, internships can last anywhere from 13-14 weeks and will be expected to work no more than 15 hours a week for high school students, 20 hours a week for undergraduates, and 25 hours a week for graduate-level students. During the summer, interns can work up to 40 hours a week for up to eight weeks.
  • What compensation is offered?
High school interns will receive $12.00 an hour. (Recent high school graduates who are not enrolled and actively attending college will only be eligible to receive a $12.00 an hour rate.)
Undergraduate interns will receive $13.00 an hour. (Recent undergraduates who are not enrolled and actively attending college will only be eligible to receive a $13.00 an hour rate.)
Graduate-level interns will receive $14.00 an hour and must be actively enrolled and attending school. (Recent master’s-level graduates will also receive a $14.00 hourly rate.)
  • Do you partner with universities to accept work-study students?
Absolutely! Work-study students are eligible and can submit their letter of interest to internships@crystalbridges.org.

  • Are residential internships offered throughout the year?
Currently, residential internships are offered solely in the summer and are contingent on the availability of funding. Positions that offer housing will have that included within their description and will have it clearly displayed in conjunction with the position title.
  • What kind of housing is provided for residential interns?
Housing will be on the Crystal Bridges grounds or in a property acquired via Airbnb. Interns are housed with other interns in our program. While in residence, interns are expected to abide by the rules established by Crystal Bridges and the Momentary or Airbnb.
  • How is relocation assistance provided?
Relocation assistance will be provided after the start of an internship. Once an applicant has accepted their position, they are responsible for covering any expenses for transportation to Bentonville, AR. After moving into their residence, interns must attend four full working days during the first week of their internship program and submit a reimbursement request. Reimbursements will be tax-free and recorded on the intern’s W2.
  • Is transportation provided from the residence to the Crystal Bridges campus?
Whether residing in a house on campus or at an Airbnb, interns will be located within one mile of the campus. Each resident will be provided a bike and bike lessons from a partnering organization (if needed) to ensure competency and comfort. For those without transportation, placements will be on campus, allowing easy walking access to the museum, local shops, and grocery stores. Additionally, accommodations will be made for interns with ADA needs.
  • How do you determine who is placed in a specific residence?
One month before the summer cohort begins, residential interns will receive an email questionnaire similar to one a college dorm would send to incoming freshmen. The questionnaire results are sent directly to the intern manager, and placements will be provided one week before the internship program begins.

  • What documents are required for my application?
Every application requires a resume and cover letter. Applications without these will not be considered.
  • Can I apply for available internship positions by submitting my resume and cover letter to internships@crystalbridges.org?
No. Due to various HR-related systems in place, you will need to submit a cover letter and resume the Workday portal here to be considered.
  • How can I make my application stand out?
Make it personal—we want to hear about YOU! A meaningful cover letter highlighting why you’re the right fit can make a big impact. For instance, if you’re applying for a community-based position, share what makes you a people person. Do you value relationships and understand the importance of partnerships? Do you enjoy meeting people where they are? We’d love to hear your story about your passion and goals and how we can help you achieve them.
  • I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
No. Intern applications must be submitted by the deadline indicated on the position description in order to be considered.

  • Can I follow up on my application if I haven’t heard anything?
You may email questions about your intern application status to internships@crystalbridges.org.
  • After receiving a verbal offer, when will I receive my official offer letter?
Official intern offer letters will be sent by a member of the People Services team for both Crystal Bridges and the Momentary. You can expect to receive these letters within 2–3 business days.
