About Exhibition

Birdwatching has been a treasured American pastime for centuries. For the casual observer or the expert tracker, the activity centers on paying close attention to the world around us. Just noticing a flash of color, a snippet of song, and the flap of a wing can lead to extraordinary discoveries, from identifying new species to simply beholding the miracle of flight.

Susan Morrison (1942–2023) modeled this practice throughout her life. As an artist based in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, she devoted her work to wildlife and its preservation. The drawings, books, and educational programs she created all began with a deep appreciation for nature and a desire to share her vision with others. This exhibition presents a selection of Morrison’s artwork—with a special focus on birds—alongside that of her contemporaries and predecessors. Not every artist featured here sought to encourage environmental conservation the way Morrison did, but in every encounter with the animals they depict, we find opportunities for delight and wonder. The exhibition is free, no tickets required. See it in Box A in the Bridge Gallery. Explore more or p.
