About the Artist
Joyce Haynes received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette. Throughout her career as a graphic artist, she has received state and national recognition for her commercial and fine art. She was the 2006 recipient of the Conservation Federation of Missouri’s Communicator of the Year award. She is a Missouri Master Naturalist and avid birder. She has illustrated Highlights for Children “Hidden Pictures,” and 14 books for various publishers, including the Weekly Reader Book: Drawing Wild Animals.
Nothing overshadows Haynes’ love of sculpting in clay, which she has done since childhood. She presently enjoys competing in national clay competitions, and won Best of Show at the 2024 Dirty South Cup Competition in Alexandria, LA. She has also been accepted into the Kansas City Clay Guild's National Tea Bowl Competition several times.
Now that she is retired, Haynes dedicates her time to sculpting and Plein-air painting. Her desire in ceramics is to reflect the spirit and humor she feels from life and nature, and to take the advice from a ceramic artist juror: “Don’t stop what you are doing.”
