K-5th School Visits
Me & My Museum (Kindergarten)
What is a museum? Students are introduced to the museum as a place for curiosity, creativity, and self-expression. Through hands-on activities, movement, storytelling, and sensory experiences, they explore a variety of artworks while building confidence in sharing what they see, think, and feel.
Everyone's An Artist: How Art Is Made (1st Grade)
Students explore how artists create by investigating a variety of materials, tools, and techniques. Building on what they already know from the classroom, they consider how choices—like color, texture, and materials—affect how an artwork looks and feels. Through close looking and discussion, students begin to see themselves as artists, using observation and imagination to make meaning.
Looking Closer: Finding Stories in Art (2nd Grade)
Students build on their museum experience by exploring artworks through careful looking and shared conversation. They practice noticing details and using what they see to figure out what might be happening in an artwork. Through guided discussion and opportunities to share ideas, students begin to understand how artists communicate stories, feelings, and experiences.
The Writing Is on the Wall: Reading Stories in Art (3rd Grade)
Students deepen their ability to “read” artworks by identifying elements such as characters, setting, and action and using key vocabulary to share what they see. Through guided inquiry and discussion, they explore how visual details work together to communicate a story, making direct connections to narrative skills they are developing in the classroom.
Cabinets of Curiosity: Foundations of American Art (4th Grade)
Students explore artworks as part of a larger story about American art and history. Through inquiry and discussion, they examine how art reflects the people, places, and events that shaped the nation. Students build skills in interpretation and critical thinking while considering how creativity and innovation influence the world around them.
Innovation and the Arts: STEAM (5th Grade)
Students discover how art connects with science, technology, engineering, and math through creative exploration in the galleries. Building on prior experiences, they investigate how artists experiment, solve problems, and innovate through their work. Through observation, discussion, and interactive experiences, students make connections across disciplines and see how creativity and critical thinking come together to generate new ideas.
