Studio Class | Intro to Handbuilding

A hand-built ceramics and functional form class introduces you to shaping clay without a pottery wheel, blending creative expression with the making of practical, everyday objects. You’ll learn foundational hand building techniques such as pinching—shaping clay with your fingers into small, organic forms; coiling—building up larger or sculptural pieces with rolled strands of clay; and slab building—creating forms like vases, boxes, or vessels from flat pieces of clay. Through these methods, the class emphasizes both craftsmanship and design, helping you create work that is as purposeful as it is visually engaging.
