Acerca del evento

Join us in the America 250: Common Threads Gallery for a talk on Melanin Activation by Basil Kincaid.

Basil Kincaid is a contemporary artist based in St. Louis, Missouri and Accra, Ghana who makes large scale, dynamic quilts using traditional methods. His quilt, Melanin Activation, features sequins and vibrantly colored strips of used clothing and "Kente" cloth, which he uses to render the harnessing of solar energy/power.

This artwork, recently acquired by Crystal Bridges, is currently on view in America 250: Common Threads. If you'd like to know more about this quilt and Kincaid's process in quilt-making, please stop by to hear a gallery talk from Curatorial Assistant of American and Modern Art, Seynabou Diallo.

This event is free with your exhibition ticket.
