About the Speakers

Liz Cheney

Liz Cheney serves as Wyoming’s lone member of Congress in the US House of Representatives. She was first elected in 2016 on a platform of restoring America’s strength and power in the world; pursuing conservative solutions to create jobs, cut taxes and regulation; and expanding America’s energy, mining, and agriculture industries. Following the January 6th attack on the US Capitol, Cheney voted to impeach former President Donald Trump, saying at the time that he “summoned the mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.” In addition to sitting on the House Armed Services Committee, Cheney serves as the Vice Chair for the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.

From 2019 to 2021, Cheney served as the Chair of the House Republican Conference, the third-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives. She was removed from this position after she refused to perpetuate the former President’s false stolen election claims, saying in a speech on the House Floor prior to her removal that “our duty is clear. Every one of us who has sworn the oath must act to prevent the unraveling of our democracy. This is not about policy. This is not about partisanship. This is about our duty as Americans. Remaining silent, and ignoring the lie, emboldens the liar. I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president’s crusade to undermine our democracy.”

Prior to her election to Congress, Cheney worked at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) during the first Bush Administration, where she promoted democracy across the world, including in Kenya, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, and a number of other countries. She then practiced law at White & Case and at the International Finance Corporation before returning to public service during the second Bush Administration, where she worked at the State Department as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Middle East. A specialist in national security and foreign policy, she was also a Fox News analyst and is the co-author—along with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney—of Exceptional: Why The World Needs a Powerful America.

Cheney received an undergraduate degree from Colorado College and a law degree from the University of Chicago. She and her husband Phil Perry have five children and live in Wilson, Wyoming.
