Virtual Workshop in a Box: Mexican Folk Art Sculpting with Renata Cassiano
Don’t let your dreams stay dreams; sculpt them! In this two-day virtual workshop, guests will explore Mexican folk art called alebrijes—colorful paper sculptures of fantastic creatures—with local artist Renata Cassiano. Born from the dreamscapes of Pedro Linares, alebrijes have become a beloved part of Mexican folk art traditions, even inspiring some of the creatures in Pixar’s Coco.
Participants in this workshop will learn about the history of alebrijes and the basic techniques for building and decorating them. Using materials like wire, paper, glue, and paint, you’ll be guided through the construction of your very own medium-sized sculpture.
Registered guests can pick up their supply boxes beginning July 1, or boxes can be delivered if ordered no later than July 2.
