Ray Wylie Hubbard, a key figure in the Cosmic Cowboy movement of the late 1970s, defies F. Scott Fitzgerald’s idea that “there are no second acts in American lives”. Alongside icons like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, Hubbard helped shape the Outlaw era in Texas music. Known for classics like “Redneck Mother,” he’s evolved into a songwriter focused on raw honesty, capturing both personal tales and dark character studies. His sound, born from the time-honored traditions of folk, country, and roots rock, embodies American music.
Opening the night’s performances is singer-songwriter Bonnie Montgomery. Raised on southern gospel, Texas swing, Delta blues, and Ozark bluegrass, Montgomery trained as an opera singer before launching her award-winning career in outlaw country.
Set outdoors in the museum’s beautiful North Forest, this family-friendly concert series features national and local artists surrounded by art and nature. Grab your lawn chair or blanket, kick back with friends, and enjoy live music under the trees all summer long. A food truck and cash bar will be available throughout the night, as well as kid-friendly artmaking activities.
