Experience your museum in a new way, surrounded by art and nature and awash in music.

James Turrell (born 1943), Way of Color, 2009, stone, concrete, stainless steel, and LED lighting, 19ft. x 54ft. 4 in., oculus: 114 in. diameter. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas, 2009.25

Join us on the Art Trail by James Turrell’s Skyspace for a live musical performance featuring guitarist Sam King.

Presented by Trillium Salon Series, this evening performance features King performing as part of his project Untight, which combines the influence of composers and improvisers who ventured decidedly away from western intonation with a do-it-yourself ethic informed by King’s years booking and performing in bands in the northwest Arkansas region.

Timed to coincide with sunset and The Way of Color’s evening color changes, this performance promises to bring the energy of audience, musician, and place together in perfect harmony.

Unlike a traditional setting, in which a performer is set apart up on stage, with an audience looking up to the spotlight, Trillium aims to let the audience become part of the experience. Coming out of the concert hall and into the galleries and ground of the museum, the performance features music inspired by works in the collection and the environment, creating what is truly music for everyone: music that helps us all and speaks to the human condition.

Free, no tickets required.

About Trillium Salon Series

Trillium Salon Series redefines the live music experience to invite connection and build community. Founded in 2016 by Katy Henriksen and Glenn France, Trillium Salon Series began with the idea of producing house concerts for classical music and expanded to include experimental and avant garde sounds. The first took place in Katy’s living room with string players from Artosphere Festival Orchestra playing Mozart alongside Lady Gaga to equal verve. Past salons include a celebration of Florence Price chamber music at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, a night of 21st century classical music at 21c Museum Hotel Bentonville, a live improv scoring to F.W. Murnau’s silent film classic Nosferatu with Thought Form Collective, a community led installation of 1,000 origami cranes at Likewise Community in downtown Fayetteville, and a New Year’s Day Potluck celebration at Mount Sequoyah Center.
