Step into the dazzling world where art and science collide! Join us for a hands-on jewelry and metalsmithing workshop led by artist Connor Dyer and create your own one-of-a-kind brooch. We’ll start by texturing metal to create eye-catching designs, then master the art – and metallurgy – of soldering to securely attach your pin back. Finally, and then explore the magic of patination—a captivating chemistry process that magically brings out color, adding the perfect finishing touch. Whether you’re curious about jewelry-making or ready to spark a new passion, this workshop promises a fun, inspiring adventure into the creative and scientific sides of metalwork!

Meet Your Instructor

Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Connor Dyer began their artistic journey close to home. They attended the University of Kansas, where they earned a BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry, along with a minor in Art History. After graduating, they pursued further education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earning an MFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry and an MA in Art Education. Connor work focuses on the exploration of fandoms and popular culture, particularly through the creation and photography of cosplay-inspired masks and hoods. She often combines metalworking techniques with fiber processes such as sewing, felting, and knitting.
