It’s the people that make Crystal Bridges’ community what it is—and we’d like you to meet one of them!
Join us for a virtual lecture featuring Crystal Bridges at 10 artist Mark Dion in conversation with Curator Mindy Besaw. Taking a close look at Dion’s practice, the discussion will give you a rare glimpse into his cabinet of curiosities as well as the artist’s space.
The talk will let you get to know the man behind the curtain—and the purpose behind the art. The job of the artist, Dion says, is to go against the grain of the culture around us and challenge convention. You’ll learn how Dion lives that mission as he explores and discusses his spectacular curiosity cabinets. By adapting scientific methods of organizing objects and displaying them in unusual ways, Dion creates works that blur the line between the rational and irrational and question the objectivity of scientific voices in society.
