Presented in partnership with the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society, see the Roni Ben-Hur Trio live in the Great Hall. Enjoy some world class jazz in an intimate candlelit setting, overlooking the resplendent waters of Crystal Bridges.

Jazz guitarist Roni Ben-Hur has built a stellar reputation as both a musician and educator, celebrated for his warm tone, masterful improvisation, and lyrical compositions. His impressive skillset spans both straight-ahead jazz and samba/bossa-nova styles, a versatility honed through collaborations with legends in each genre, like bebop piano great Barry Harris and revered Brazilian vocalist Leny Andrade.

ABOUT RONI BEN-HUR TRIO

Jazz guitarist Roni Ben-Hur has earned a sterling reputation as a musician and educator, renowned for his golden tone, improvisational brilliance, compositional lyricism and ability to charm peers, students and listeners alike. Eminent jazz critic Gary Giddins wrote in the Village Voice: “A limber and inventive guitarist, Ben-Hur keeps the flame alive and pure, burning in every note… He’s a guitarist who knows the changes and his own mind.” Originally from Tunisia, Roni’s family relocated to Dimona, Israel, where he was born into a large, working-class family.

Now a longtime American citizen, based in the New York City area — he has recorded a dozen-plus albums as leader or co-leader, with The New York Times praising his “crisp, fluid style” and Time Out New York calling him “a formidable and consummately lyrical guitarist.” He has developed a rare facility in both straight-ahead jazz and samba/bossa-nova styles, underscored by his work with masters in each field, from bebop piano sage Barry Harris and winds ace Frank Wess to beloved Brazilian vocalist Leny Andrade and composer Marcus Valle.

Harvie S, a renowned jazz bassist, emerged as a prominent figure in the realm of contemporary jazz with his distinctive style and virtuosic technique. Born with an innate musical talent, Harvie began his journey into the world of jazz as a pianist and switched to bass at age 18. Throughout his illustrious career, Harvie has collaborated with a plethora of jazz luminaries, leaving an indelible mark on the global jazz scene. His dynamic bass lines and innovative approach to rhythm have earned him widespread acclaim among critics and audiences alike.

Harvey has performed and recorded with Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Tony Bennett, Michael Brecker, Pat Metheny, James Brown, Kenny Barron and Chick Corea, to name just a few and can be heard on twenty two albums as a leader, twenty as a co-leader, and over four hundred albums as a sideman.

Drummer Tim Horner is a native son of Roanoke Va. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1979 Tim moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1980. Since moving to New York Tim has graced the stages of New Yorks major venues such as The Village Vanguard, Birdland, The Blue Note, Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Coca Cola.

The artists he has worked with span a large cross section of jazz history, including Hank Jones, Clifford Jordan, Pepper Adams and The Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra. In this span of 41 years Horner has appeared on over 250 recordings as a sideman and 3 of his own personal projects of original compositions.
