America 250 | Hand Painted Plates

In this workshop, you’ll create a hand‑painted ceramic plate inspired by the commemorative objects featured in America 250: Common Threads. We’ll begin in the gallery, looking at historic examples of commemorative objects to spark ideas about how everyday moments and milestones are remembered.

Back in the studio, you’ll learn simple transfer techniques before painting on a premade bisqueware plate using cobalt underglaze, echoing the bold blue lettering of traditional “blue plaques.” Your finished plate can mark any personal moment worth celebrating, from adopting a pet or making your bed in the morning, to honoring a meaningful achievement or milestone.
