#ArtistatCB: Jessica Pezalla

At Crystal Bridges, we’re committed to exploring the unfolding story of America. Through the 2014 State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now exhibition, the museum introduced 102 artists who live and work in communities all over the U.S. We’re continuing that effort in 2018 through new installations and the upcoming exhibitions, The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art and Native North America, both organized by Crystal Bridges.

#ArtistatCB provides a window into the lives and studios of artists, who help us connect to the issues of our time in thought-provoking and inspiring ways.

We’re kicking off #ArtistatCB with Jessica Pezalla, an artist and designer featured in the new focused exhibition The Garden!

Jessica is the artist and designer behind creative studio Bramble Workshop. Based out of Portland, Jessica and her team create one-of-a-kind retail displays, event decor, and custom art installations.

With an MFA in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute and a BA in studio art from Oberlin College, Jessica’s design approach is grounded in her art background. Jessica works with a team of talented fabricators and craftspeople, allowing the studio to realize projects that are varied in technique, material, and scope. Bramble Workshop’s installations and displays are always innovative, original, and impeccably crafted.

Her work at Crystal Bridges: Jessica’s installation is titled “Unfading Flowers,” based on the Emily Dickinson poem, “There is Another Sky.”

There is another sky,
Ever serene and fair,
And there is another sunshine,
Though it be darkness there;
Never mind faded forests, Austin,
Never mind silent fields—
Here is a little forest,
Whose leaf is ever green;
Here is a brighter garden,
Where not a frost has been;
In its unfading flowers
I hear the bright bee hum:
Prithee, my brother,
Into my garden come!
—Emily Dickinson, “There is Another Sky” first published in Poems by Emily Dickinson, First Series (1890).
