The Enchanted Party After François Boucher, The Enchanted Home
Yvette Mayorga’s practice is shaped by her experience as a first-generation Mexican American and her family’s migration story. Her paintings merge the decadence of eighteenth-century French painting with autobiographical images in a style that references to the elaborately frosted cakes that Mayorga’s mother used to decorate. In discussing her inspiration, Mayorga stated: “Every Summer of my youth we did a reversed migration from the Midwest to our parents' homeland. This painting is based on a 1992 photograph of my joint birthday party with my older sister in Zacatecas, Mexico."
