South View of New York Harbor
Throughout her career, Yvonne Jacquette sought out fresh perspectives of familiar scenes. She had lived in New York City for over twenty years when the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers—each 110 stories tall—opened a rooftop deck to the public. There, Jacquette made a series of studies that provided a new viewpoint of the tip of Manhattan and the surrounding New York Harbor. By depicting skyscrapers from atop another skyscraper, Jacquette captures the ever-evolving newness of one of the oldest cities in the United States.
