Leonardo Drew is a Brooklyn-based artist who works with everyday materials - including wood, cotton, iron, and paper - which he alters by burning, premature aging, painting, and rusting. His sculptures might look like they were composed from found objects, but they are mostly made from new materials. Many of Drew’s installations are directly related to their location, connecting with architecture, natural surroundings, and events related to a place. Number 184T, created specifically for Crystal Bridges, is meant to be experienced both close up and from the North Lawn. Although the artist re-uses materials from installation to installation, no two works are the same and each reflects the location and moment in which they were created.
