Monochrome II

Here, over 60 recycled aluminum canoes and small boats balance off a central column, encompassing both delicacy and strength. Nancy Rubins creates suspended monumental sculptures from large found objects—including trailer homes and aircraft parts—that she chooses for their color, shape, materiality, and scale. Many of these boats were sourced from the Buffalo River. The seemingly precarious compositions evoke tension and create the illusion that the objects are frozen in time and space.
