Photography by Edward C. Robison III

Untitled

Hale Woodruff traveled frequently and found artistic inspiration across the globe. The bright colors, bold lines, and abstract shapes of Untitled demonstrate influences of both African textiles and masks, as well as Mexican tiles and architectural patterns. The artist lived and worked in Nashville, Indianapolis, Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Paris, and Mexico City. Living in large cities exposed Woodruff to many different cultures and peoples. By not assigning a specific title, Woodruff allowed this painting to recall multiple styles and places in one work.
