In this activity, you will learn about the work of artist Alexander Calder and explore movement, expressive lines, and emotions through his sculpture Trois noirs sur un rouge, 1968. Learn how Calder uses color and movement to incorporate emotion, and then use Calder’s artwork as inspiration for a drawing exercise.

Alice Bloch, EdD, Temple University; MA, UCLA, is an internationally recognized Isadora Duncan historian, dancer, and Arts Integration specialist. She received Dance St Louis’ 2020 Visionary Artist’s Award, and the first Regional Arts Commission Dance fellowship. Alice’s workshops and lecture/performances include I Always Dance the Chorus: Isadora Duncan and the Dance of Democracy, and The Physics of Duncan Dance. Her 2016 Crystal Bridges Museum of American Arts’ residency featured the performance, Isadora and the New Woman. She is on the boards of the Missouri Alliance for Arts Education, and the Missouri Dance Organization where she focuses on race, equity, and inclusion.
