Aug 26, 2019 Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art offers a full list of programs for all ages, including a Distinguished Speaker lecture, a Van Cliburn concert, and the final weeks of the museum’s two summer exhibitions, Nature’s Nation and Color Field. September is the last month to see the museum’s temporary summer exhibitions, Nature’s Nation and Color Field. Nature’s Nation, an exhibition featuring 300 years of evolving ideas about the natural world, will be open through September 9. Color Field, an outdoor exhibition of large-scale sculptures in the North Forest, will be open through September 30. For tickets and more information, visit the Summer at Crystal Bridges page. A new, free focus exhibition, A Walk in the Woods will open on August 31 through March 10, 2020. The exhibition was developed by Crystal Bridges assistant curator Alejo Benedetti, and features artists such as Patrick Jacobs, Neil Welliver, and more. A Walk in the Woods reveals various ways to interact with the forest, based on season or purpose for entering. The Van Cliburn Concert Series returns this fall with a special performance of Holes in the Sky, written by trailblazing pianist Lara Downes, on Sunday, September 15 at 3:00 p.m. In Holes in the Sky, Downes offers a tribute to phenomenal women in American music such as Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Arkansas native Florence B. Price, and more, with special guests Alicia Hall Moran, mezzo-soprano, who will perform vocal selections from the featured artists, and harpist Bridget Kibbey. Tickets are available here. The 2019 Distinguished Speaker Series will be hosting Tonya Lewis Lee on Friday, September 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. Producer, writer, entrepreneur, advocate, and art collector with her husband Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee has sought to entertain, educate, inspire and encourage positive healthy lifestyle choices and outcomes through storytelling online, in books, film, and television. During this Distinguished Speaker lecture, Lee will discuss the power and impact of art and images to inspire social justice. Tickets are available here. Crystal Bridges will say farewell to Color Field with an Art Night Out party in the North Forest on Friday, September 27. The evening will be with site-specific performances, a main music stage featuring headliner Arkansauce and interactive percussion show by Arx Duo, and a colorful explosion of artmaking activities. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is offered at all Distinguished Speaker Lectures and at the Collection Highlights tour on the third Saturday of each month.
