Awataba Kiva Mural
Pablita Velarde created Awataba Kiva Mural using paints she made from ground minerals. By literally painting with earth, Velarde expresses her inseparable connection to land. The title references a mural on the walls of a kiva. Kivas are Pueblo chambers, typically circular in form, reserved for important cultural and social functions.
