Untitled
In this series, David Levinthal staged and photographed lifelike figurines to pay homage to some of baseball’s all-time greats. Here, the artist depicts prominent Caribbean Latinx players from different Spanish-speaking nations. The works underscore these athletes’ strength and contributions to sports history. The photographs can also serve as a powerful reminder that for many Caribbean Latinx athletes, playing baseball in the US represented not just a job but an opportunity to leave their homelands’ dictatorships and the lingering impacts from US interventions.
