Fly's Eye Dome
Known for his geodesic dome designs, R. Buckminster Fuller conceived of the Fly’s Eye Dome in 1966 and produced three prototype domes made from fiberglass by 1981. Originally intended as a means of inexpensive, efficient housing, this 50-foot prototype, was the largest of the trio (the others spanned 12 feet and 24 feet in diameter). It was first shown at the Los Angeles Bicentennial in 1981.
