Open Call Maura Dance

Open Call Maura DanceThank you for your interest in participating in the Crystal Bridges site-specific dance performance called Aniwisvsgo’i  choreographed by Maura Garcia and presented at Lake Atalanta on June 2, Crystal Bridges on June 8, and Lake Fayetteville on June 9.

Crystal Bridges is hosting several performances by Maura Garcia. Dance with community members to encourage and celebrate the human connection to nature, planting, and farming through an Indigenous perspective. The performance highlights topics found in the museum’s newest temporary exhibition, Nature’s Nation. The performance title, Aniwisvsgo’i, means “they are always planting” in Cherokee. As planters, we are dependent upon the elements and the temperament of our environment. Space, location, and time all affect the growing cycle. Aniwisvsgo'i honors Indigenous planting traditions, the elements, and our places in the world. The dance is split into three parts: preparing the ground, planting, and harvesting.

Community participants do not need to be trained dancers--all bodies and abilities are welcome--but should be comfortable with moving in the background during a live performance. Open to performers ages 12 and up.

The live performance will take place on three dates in three different locations. The performance is approximately 23 minutes long. We encourage community participants to join all dates or select one!  Each performance date includes a morning workshop on movements from 10 am - 11:30 am, taught by Maura Garcia and her core dancers, followed by the public performances at 2 and 4 pm.
