Canceled – Spotlight Talk » State of the Art 2020: Historical Fiction

This event has been canceled due to Crystal Bridges’ response to COVID-19. Follow our updates.

History is often a slippery topic. While frequently presented as a strictly factual record of the past, in reality we know it to be a story that flattens, simplifies, and recasts according to the person recording it. This panel will center around ideas related to the constructedness of history, the pitfalls of memory, and the ways that a selection of contemporary artists are pointing to the fiction underlying how we talk about the past. Join curator Alejo Benedetti along with artists Mari Hernandez, Jordan Seaberry, and David R. Harper in conversation.
