Soul of a Nation Film Series » Black Power Mix Tape 1967-1975

Duke University Professor Mark Anthony Neal presents a screening of the documentary  Black Power Mix Tape 1967-1975, followed by a group discussion with contemporary audio interviews from leading African American artists, activists, musicians, and scholars.  The rare footage went unknown for decades until a Swedish filmmaker discovered in a hidden collection found in a Sweden library.  The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 looks at the people, society, culture, and style that fueled an era of convulsive change. Utilizing an innovative format that riffs on the popular 1970s mixtape, Mixtape is a cinematic and musical journey into Black communities of America.
