Performance Lab » Nicholas Van Young Presents SoundMovement

Nicholas Van Young is based in New York City and was a cast member of the off-Broadway sensation STOMP for nine years. He is currently a company member and co-creator/choreographer of Electronic Tap Music with Dorrance Dance company. Nicholas began his professional career at the age of sixteen as a part of the innovative multiform Tapestry Dance Company of Austin, TX. While in Austin he was awarded “Best Male Dancer” in 2001 and “Best Choreography” in 2003 by the Austin Critics Council. He recently premiered his New York-based dance company, SoundMovement, that focuses on tap and modern dance through experimental sound manipulation.

The Performance Lab series presents an action-packed show choreographed by renowned dancer Nicholas Van Young and his dance group, SoundMovement. The group takes us on a journey—exploring the evolution of Man and the Machine by pushing the boundaries of sound, tap and modern dance. SoundMovement consists of an evolving group of rhythmically trained dancers that focus on movement and music as a combined medium. SoundMovement is not defined as a tap, body percussion or music ensemble but looks to explore dance soundscapes and sound design through unique electronic manipulations, audio speakers, and looping. Sponsored by JTH Productions and Demara Titzer.
