Join us for a special Opening Exhibition Lecture with curators of the exhibition, Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now and interdisciplinary Anishinaabekwe artist Rebecca Belmore. The discussion will begin with an overview of the exhibition with Curator Candice Hopkins, Crystal Bridges Curator of American Art Mindy Besaw, and Manuela Well-Off-Man, Chief Curator at the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts, followed by a discussion with Belmore on topics of social justice and equality and her artworks, including Shanawdithit, The Last of the Beothuk and Freeze, both featured in the temporary exhibition Art for a New Understanding: Native Voices, 1950s to Now. This is the first exhibition to chart a history of contemporary Indigenous art from the United States and Canada.
