Gallery Performance » Minimalist Sculpture and Music

Join composer Gunner Basinger next to Donald Judd’s Untitled, 1989 (Bernstein 89-24) for a solo electric guitar performance, featuring music  by John Cage, Steve Reich, and Eve Beglarian. Using Judd’s sculpture as a visual companion, r Basinger will play selections of music to illustrate key aesthetic and compositional values practiced by minimalist artists across disciplines. The pieces featured will include Cage’s In a Landscape (1948), Reich’s Electric Counterpoint (1987), and Beglarian’s Until it Blazes (2001).

Gunner Basinger is a composer and sound installation artist writing electroacoustic pieces that are concerned with the implementation of modernist forms in contemporary electronic music. He employs found recordings, homemade instruments, and artificial extended techniques to craft works which juxtapose divergent ideas into unique, deep-listening experiences. Basinger has released five collections of music for ensemble and electronics.
