Film Series » Hollywood Jazz: The Jazz Singer
Revel in American jazz and Hollywood in our three-part Jazz Film Series. We’ll begin with The Jazz Singer (1927), which was the first film to have sound dialogue. The series continues on October 5 with The Benny Goodman Story (1956), featuring a star lineup of powerhouse jazz musicians, and finally a screening on October 12 of Lady Sings the Blues (1972), which highlights many great Billie Holiday songs and features Diana Ross. This series is inspired by the temporary exhibition, Stuart Davis: In Full Swing and the influence of jazz on the artist.
