Arkansas New Play Festival

Join us at the Museum as we host the first weekend of Arkansas’ flagship festival of bold new plays for the American stage! More than 40 professional artists will come together in Northwest Arkansas to create and present never-before-seen scripts in advance of their national premieres. With two full weekends of performances, the festival includes both fully-staged new work and staged reading performances at TheatreSquared and Crystal Bridges. You’re invited to sit in for the performances and an intimate conversation with the playwright and cast. Help shape new works from the ground up!

Festival pass prices range from $36 to $42. Passes can be purchased at http://theatre2.org/.

The Arkansas New Play Festival is held Friday, June 17 through Thursday, June 26. A Festival Pass grants entry to two weekends of performances, including three staged readings, a staged workshop production, and the Young Playwrights’ Showcase. The second weekend will be held at TheatreSquared in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

TECTONIC MÉLANGE by Deborah Yarchun

Winner of the 2015 Kernodle New Play Competition, this up-to-the-minute take on the boom-and-bust frontier of the North Dakota oil business mixes geological matters with matters of the heart. When Steve, an ardent environmentalist, approaches Tara, a brilliant geologist and oil explorer, are his intentions as innocent as he claims? And what of the farm couple whose relationship is tested by the mention of a possible motherlode of shale oil beneath their property? A smart and entertaining new play from Austin-based playwright Deborah Yarchun.
