Get to know about our volunteer of the month: Kenneth Waggoner!
Former: Director of Public Relations, “Austin City Limits” television music series (PBS) & Director of Corporate Communications, KQED, PBS TV, NPR radio, and San Francisco city magazine.
As a hobby, I enjoy creating what I call “digital gestures,” abstractions from digital photo manipulations.
Favorite artwork or space at the museum
I have several favorites across all the galleries and the grounds. I particularly enjoy contemporary works. If I had to pick just one favorite it would be Maxfield Parrish’s The Lantern Bearers.
How did you learn about the museum and what prompted you to get involved?
After relocating to the area last year, I was looking for a cultural or community center volunteer opportunity. I found both, together in one place, at Crystal Bridges.
In what ways have you been involved as a volunteer with the museum thus far?
I like helping in all departments, but over time find myself taking more shifts in the education area. I enjoy assisting guests with expressing their own artistic creativity.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
I like the wide variety of volunteer opportunities, and I find inspiration every time I’m at the museum or around the property.
What keeps you coming back to volunteer?
The work is interesting, and the staff is very supportive of volunteers as an integral part of the team.
What have you learned or how have you been personally affected by your experience with the museum?
I always learn interesting new things in the library and the education area. And I particularly enjoy interacting with guests from the local area and from around the world.
Do you have any advice for individuals considering volunteering with Crystal Bridges?
Do it! (but don’t take my favorite shifts) 😉
