The New Year often sparks an impulse in some people to make resolutions. Allow me to make a few resolution recommendations from Crystal Bridges that will be much easier to stick with than the perennial “get in shape” resolution:
Try your hand at art-making! Creative expression enhances your quality of life. Take a class or workshop at the Museum or elsewhere. Go ahead and buy that canvas you’ve been eyeing and paint! It doesn’t matter if what you create is not quite ready for the Crystal Bridges collection…just do it!
Learn more about one artist from our collection: choose an artist and read up on his or her life and work (the Crystal Bridges Library is a great place to find books for this purpose). You’ll be surprised what you learn. I always am.
Come out on a warm evening and watch the Buckyball. Heck, bundle up with a thermos of hot cocoa on a cold night and come out and watch the Buckyball.
Walk the Crystal Bridges Trails in every season: take photographs or draw your favorite tree or view and see how it changes with the seasons. Do you have a favorite tree? If not, get out there and choose a favorite tree.
Keep your eye on the progress of the installation of the Frank Lloyd Wright house on Crystal Bridges’ grounds and make a point of touring it when it opens later this year.
Take the Architecture Tour at the Museum and learn more about the architecture of Crystal Bridges and the work of Moshe Safdie.
Become a Member, if you aren’t one already: put your money where your heart is.
Eat dinner at Eleven on a Wednesday or Friday evening and stroll through the galleries afterward: the Museum is a whole new place by night.
Come in to the Museum one day just to look at those five works, then go home. You don’t have to stay all day to make a Museum visit worthwhile. Admission is free, after all.
Bring a friend who has never seen Crystal Bridges, and play the tour guide. Enjoy the sense of ownership that your familiarity with the Museum brings you. You’ll both have fun.
Happy New Year from Crystal Bridges!!
