“Once we got to the Museum, the one word that
described what I felt was WOW.”
What made you decide to become a Member of Crystal Bridges?
I wanted to become a Member of Crystal Bridges because I have a deep appreciation and passion for the arts. By being a Member, I know that my support will help continue the journey the Museum is on—making art available for free (or low cost) to people in our community. Northwest Arkansas has a lot to offer for everyone of any age. Bringing Crystal Bridges to the area helped by putting Bentonville on the map and by giving the region access to one-of-a-kind opportunities to see art that they may never [otherwise] get the chance to see in their lifetime.
How has Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art impacted you?
Crystal Bridges has allowed me the opportunity to become more exposed to different types of art (from traditional to contemporary to modern and everything in-between). It has given me the chance to have a deeper appreciation of art and a better understanding of what the artist is telling us in their works.
What benefit of membership do you appreciate the most and why?
I appreciate the ability to be able to view the temporary exhibits at any time at no cost. Also, being able to go to other museums around the US and utilize my Crystal Bridges membership to get in at no charge really helps to enhance and expand my knowledge and appreciation of the arts.
The other benefit is seeing Crystal Bridges continuing to grow and expand their outreach into the community. It helps Crystal Bridges be a part of what Bentonville represents to our [region].
Are there particular artworks or galleries that are special to you?
Which ones and why?
When Crystal Bridges brought in the Norman Rockwell exhibit, that was probably the most impactful time of my life. I grew up admiring Norman Rockwell’s work, and my grandparents had a collection of his magazines that I would look at every time I visited their house. Being able to see all of the Saturday Evening Post covers was an honor and a privilege (and it brought back great memories I had when I was a child).
I also love to visit the modern collection every time I visit the Museum. The way the artwork is displayed (plus the fact that it just looks cool) really helps me to appreciate what artists today go through to express their love of the art. In particular, I love all of Andy Warhol’s paintings in that they are vivid, active, and very eye-appealing.
What three songs would be on your Crystal Bridges play list?
Noise (Gavin Creel)
Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Judy Garland, Patti LaBelle, or Katherine McPhee)
Parce Mihi Domine (Officium)
