Father’s Day is just around the corner, and Diana Walpole, Crystal Bridges’ Retail Operations Manager, has your gifts for Dad in the bag.
It’s always helpful to have a shopping list when going to the grocery store. The same goes for my buying trips to stock the Museum Store with new merchandise each season. As I was preparing for my winter trips to Dallas and New York, I asked the store team to write down anything they thought would be good for me to seek out. I think they enjoyed turning the tables and giving ME an assignment instead of the other way around. But truth be told, I love involving them in buying decisions for the store. After all, they are the ones who are out there listening to what our guests are looking for when they visit the Museum Store.
The list they gave me was two pages long, but it included one specific gift category that they felt was under-represented. Number three on the list was “Anything for our men’s case: pens, card cases, cuff links, knives……men’s stuff!” With Father’s Day less than a month away, what better time to share what we came up with?
Crystal Bridges tie
The first on the list is not something found on my buying trip, but rather a product that’s been over a year in the making. This men’s tie is inspired by Crystal Bridges’ elegant logo. The design combines the museum’s signature colors with the iconic arched shape of the copper-roofed bridge structures that give Crystal Bridges its name.
Santa Fe Stoneworks knives, money clips
These utilitarian gifts by Santa Fe Stoneworks are unique and beautiful. Their knives and money clips feature gemstone, wood, and in some cases, fossilized woolly mammoth tusk!
Frank Lloyd Wright watch
If Dad is a Frank Lloyd Wright fan, he will love this watch. Featuring a silver-tone stainless steel case and black leather strap, this watch was adapted from the dome design of the SC Johnson Administrative Building, designed by Wright in 1936.
Davin & Kesler cufflinks, card holder
Handsome cufflinks and card holders are the specialty of Davin & Kesler. Their many different designs are created using woods such as cocobolo and ebony, sometimes combined with argentium silver, mother of pearl, or other materials.
These gifts are just plain fun. A shoe-shaped bottle opener will surely be a conversation piece at any party. The macho man catchall can hold dad’s keys on his bicep while keeping his treasures organized in the tray below. The ten-in-one multi-tool is a must have: a flat screwdriver, glass hammer, knife, and scissors are just a few of the ten different functional tools within this one handy gadget.
I hope this give you some idea of where to begin—Crystal Bridges’ Museum Store of course! We’ll be happy to help you find the perfect gift for the man in your life.
