Travel is an important part of offered programming among museums, providing additional avenues of engagement for members, supporters, and prospective supporters. Crystal Bridges’ Travel Program launched in December of 2012. Since then, we have hosted groups in Miami Beach for Art Basel, Paris for the American Encounters exhibition, and New York City for the contemporary art auctions. These particular trips were curated especially for our Members and supporters at the $10,000 level and above.
We recently extended invitations to Members at the $500 level and above for local and regional excursions. Our first regional trip took place March 15-16 to Kansas City, MO. This two-day art getaway allowed Members of Crystal Bridges to visit other museums like the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. The group was specially greeted at each museum and received tours with curators and docents.
In addition to these fantastic museums, the group attended opening night of La Boheme at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts. The opera wasn’t the only highlight of that night, however. This performing arts center was designed by Crystal Bridges’ architect Moshe Safdie, and is a stunning work of art in itself, honored by CNN.com as one of the world’s 15 mos beautiful concert halls. As one guest wrote, “[I] Loved the planned events and really enjoyed meeting and visiting with others.” Another guest said, “I would recommend this trip to others!” Crystal Bridges Members at the $500 level and above are invited to participate in trips, which are designated by level of support. The remaining trips for 2014 are as follows:
Members at the $500 Level and Above:
Members at the $1,500 Level and Above:
Members at the $10,000 Level and Above:
Our next stop will be May 3-4 to Eureka Springs for the opening weekend of May Festival of the Arts. Guests on this two-day adventure will travel together by bus from Crystal Bridges to Eureka Springs for a fun-filled weekend celebrating the arts! Events will include artist-led studio tours, local culinary delights, and special events at some of the city’s unique landmarks like the Queen Anne Mansion. We will also take in the infamous ArtRageous Parade that runs through downtown Eureka.
Each trip has an associated travel fee for guests, which is reflective of expenses incurred by the Museum to host events and provide transportation and on-site staff coordination. Our staff identifies opportunities to provide special experiences, i.e. tours of private collections, behind-the-scenes access in a number of destinations and points of interest. Art fairs, exhibitions, museum openings, and our Crystal Bridges schedule help to dictate our travel calendar for the year.
The advantages of traveling with Crystal Bridges include the insight gained from Museum professionals as well as exclusive opportunities not available to the general public. Each trip includes Crystal Bridges staff to serve as onsite coordinators for the group. Our hope and intent is to provide a thoughtfully planned agenda that will allow guests to get the most out of their experience on the trip. Interested in knowing more?
