Conjunction Junction – A Sensory Iconoclast Function

Sensory Iconoclast Logo 2014Sensory Iconoclasts, featuring regional food and art collaborations, leaves the station, quite literally, this Tuesday, August 19, at 6:30 p.m. from the Arkansas Missouri Train Depot in Springdale. This year’s event breaks new ground, as collaborators will display their wares at the Arts Center of the Ozarks and on a train that departs the station en route to Fayetteville’s Dickson Street, then back again.

Sensory Iconoclast Collaborations – 2013

Co-curators Eve Smith, of the Arts Center of the Ozarks; and Case Dighero, Culinary Director at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, have revived the same paradigm from last year’s group (learn more about the 2013 Sensory Iconoclasts here), while introducing new participants, such as artist Zeek Taylor from Eureka Springs and Casey Letellier from 28 Springs in Siloam Springs, to explore their insights and sensibilities regarding public art and sustainability.  The mantra behind the 2014 Sensory Iconoclasts event is steeped in the respective pairs redefining how the world at large understands sustainability in art, culture, and cuisine.

Sanderson's Meal PopsChef Chrissy Sanderson, of Tusk and Trotter fame, alongside visual arts guru Jeremy Mason McGraw, have created a work that incorporates satire in a nostalgic Americana form through Sanderson’s Meal Pops.  These incredibly enigmatic meat lollipops are like food from the future—albeit a future that could only be born out of the 1950s.  The buzz, and at times controversy, centered around these protein specimens has resonated loudly throughout the food and art community in Northwest Arkansas.  One doesn’t know if Sanderson and McGraw are geniuses, or just simply off the proverbial rails…I guess we’ll all have to wait and see next Tuesday.

I invite you to climb aboard our…(choose one) soul / crazy / peace / groovy / gravy…train and experience the power of art and cuisine through either or both of the Sensory Iconoclasts events next week at the Arts Center of the Ozarks and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.  Cheers!
