The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is currently under construction in Bentonville, Arkansas, in an area that has experienced explosive growth in recent years. Located in a region of the south central United States known as the Ozark Plateau, Northwest Arkansas is blessed with abundant natural and scenic beauty as well as a thriving business community. Among the national accolades that Northwest Arkansas has received recently include:
- Money Magazine included Northwest Arkansas in its 2006 list of “100 Best Places to Live.”
- Forbes Magazine’s annual list of the top 200 best metro areas for doing business placed Northwest Arkansas in its Top 10 of major metropolitan areas for the fourth year in a row.
- MSN.com ranked Northwest Arkansas as the best low cost area in the nation in which to live and work, saying that “access to culture and the beauty of the surrounding mountains and lakes has helped land [NWA] the title of one of America’s Most Livable Cities.”
- Inc. Magazine ranked Northwest Arkansas as the 13th (out of 393 areas surveyed) best metropolitan area overall for doing business, up from 19th in the 2006 survey.
Since 1990, the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers MSA population has increased 99.6 percent. The area is home to some of the world’s largest corporations, which were all established in the region in the 1960s or earlier: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Tyson Foods, Inc.; and J. B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. In addition, the region is home to the state’s largest higher education institution, the University of Arkansas. Because of Wal-Mart, Northwest Arkansas is the retail capital of the world, and companies large and small have offices in the area to serve the thriving retail industry. Northwest Arkansas is conveniently situated near the geographic center of North America. The communities and towns that comprise Northwest Arkansas include: Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, Eureka Springs, Bella Vista and Siloam Springs.
The area is easily accessible by plane, which is a benefit to the many executives who travel to the area for business. The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport offers direct flights daily to 16 major U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta Washington D.C., and Chicago. Other metropolitan areas such as Tulsa, Dallas, Memphis, Kansas City and St. Louis, are within an easy half-day’s drive.
