Collaborating with other institutions will be an important focus of Crystal Bridges, even before the museum opens. Currently, several works from the Crystal Bridges permanent collection have been or are currently on loan at various museums throughout the United States including:
- Philadelphia Museum of Art – Thomas Eakins’ portrait of Professor Benjamin Howard Rand is currently on loan.
- The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art – Jasper Francis Cropsey’s majestic depiction of early American frontier life, The Backwoods of America, is now featured in the American galleries of The Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City.
- Museum of Fine Arts Houston – The distinctive painting George Washington (The Constable-Hamilton Portrait) by the American painter Gilbert Stuart is currently on view.
- Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City – Kindred Spirits by Asher B. Durand is currently on loan in the Met’s newly re-designed Mid-Nineteenth-Century Decorative Arts Gallery.
