Performance Lab » Honoring Citizenship by Victoria Marks

The most recent works of Los Angeles-based choreographer Victoria Marks are driven by the challenge of defining her role as an artist in civic responsibility, leading her to create a collection of pieces titled “Not About Iraq,” “Action Conversations,” and “Veterans.” In Honoring Citizenship, performances are intersected with short film works that question the place of the body in matters of heroism, valor, and truth. Victoria Marks is a Guggenheim Fellow and has been honored with the Alpert Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography. She has received numerous awards for her dance films, including the Grand Prix in the Video Danse, first prize in Videodance Barcelona, and the Best of Show in the Dance Film Association’s Dance and the Camera Festival. Marks is a professor of choreography in the Department of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA.
