Film Series and KUAF/Fulbright Chamber Concert » The Caged Bird
Meet filmmaker and musician Jim Greeson for a special screening of his documentary, The Caged Bird: The Life and Music of Florence B. Price. The film traces the life of Arkansas native Florence B. Price and the culture in which she lived, beginning with her birth in Little Rock in 1887. Price was an award-winning pianist and composer who became the first African American woman to have her work performed by a major symphony. Greeson’s documentary tells the story of a woman who refused to be a “caged bird” and accept the limited opportunities that were available to her race and gender. The film program begins with a 45-minute concert by the KUAF Chamber Music Festival, featuring original compositions by Florence Price.
