Insider Tips from the Call Center for Crystal Bridges First-Timers!

Tulip Tree Trail 2

You’ve heard all the national buzz about Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and now you have decided that it is time to plan a trip to Northwest Arkansas to see just what all the buzz is about.  From the first reports about our new museum in the New York press to the recent coverage on the CBS evening news, you know that there must be something special going on in the Ozarks and now you will experience all that this new major art museum has to offer.

My next three blog posts are for you, one of our many first time visitors to Crystal Bridges Museum. Like most of us, you want to make sure that you get all the inside tips and suggestions to make your sojourn to the Ozarks a success. Well, here it is – my list of top ten insider tips, as collected from our guests and members, for your first visit to Crystal Bridges Museum. Let’s count them down starting with numbers ten, nine and eight!

Tulip Tree Trail 2TEN – Bring comfortable walking shoes for our trails. Crystal Bridges Museum “welcomes all to celebrate the American Spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of nature.” With over 3.5 miles of trails meandering through 120 acres of Ozark forest, a big part of the Crystal Bridges experience is viewing the natural landscape and wonderful art installations along many of our trails. Tip: Be sure to visit James Turrell’s Skyspace installation to view the sunset or sunrise light display!

NINE – Make time to visit the third-floor Library. Only a small percentage of our visitors make it up to the third level to visit one of the Museum’s hidden treasures, the Museum Library. Situated at the top of the building, the view from the Library’s wall of glass provides a commanding overlook of the entire Museum from above. Across from the Museum is a panoramic view of the Ozark forest. The view is spectacular in any season, from the beautiful color of fall and the haunting beauty of winter snow to the lush green canopies of spring and summer. Tip: Enjoy one of the art books in our soft-seating areas overlooking the view. library-header2

EIGHT – Enjoy our gallery audio guides. At our Guest Services counter in the main lobby of the Museum, complimentary iPods are available for check-out with audio commentary of many of the works in both our permanent collection galleries and our temporary exhibitions (there’s an entire app dedicated to State of the Art!). There are even audio guides covering the Museum grounds and architecture. Tip: You can download the Crystal Bridges apps to your Android or Apple device free from the app store for your device. That way. you can take a part of the Crystal Bridges experience home with you!
